Well, I never thought I'd see the day!!!  My best friend is a quilting goddess and I am always in awe of the beautiful quilts that she creates.  I have been getting more and more into my sewing lately but have always said that I would never ever venture into making quilts as they just looked like SO much work!!  How wrong was I!!  Well, they are a bit of work but I'm sure once you get used to it it is a little quicker.  So I decided to make my mum a lap quilt for Mothers Day.  I started with a practice quilt - thank goodness as I stuffed it so many times that I kind of just ended up doing my own design haha!  Its a lot smaller than originally intended so I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with it but I'll finish it eventually.  I really wanted to get started on my mum's quilt as I'm going on holidays in two weeks and only get back on mother's day.  So, here is the quilt top so far.  I got this done in 2 days - well not 2 full days - about 1/2 day on Sunday and then a few hours on Monday evening.  I'm so impressed that it has only taken me that long. It still needs the sashing/borders/binding etc but I'm still debating what colours to use for that.

Cover me up..

Here is the last of my sewing projects for today.  A cover for our computer.  It sits out in our back room which can get quite dusty at times so I figured I'd make a little cover for it.  I initially was going to make it in just the red material with the black as the inner fabric but then realised that I'd cut the red material too small!  So I decided to cut it all into strips of varying size and sew it together with the black and then put the black as the inner fabric as well.  It was also my first attempt at creating bias binding - well...its not bias binding in the true sense but I figure it looks ok!  I made it big enough so that the keyboard and mouse also tuck in under the cover as well.  And as an added bonus - when it comes off the computer it can just slide onto the back of the chair!

Toiletries

Here is my latest creation.  I really wanted to use some of my oilcloth so I made this toiletries bag.  Its got the lovely mexican oilcloth on the inside so that any spills are easily wiped up.  Its probably a little bigger than I wanted but I kinda guessed with all the measurements :-)

Latest bits and pieces

Well I haven't been doing as much sewing as I'd like but I have managed to whip up a few bits and pieces - 2 to be exact.  (Not that the first one is exactly "sewing"...the only bit of sewing was the pockets and hook to hang the calendar.)  The first came from a need for a place to hang our yearly calendar and other bits and pieces. We had a place in our old kitchen, but since the renovation, the wall that we hung all of our "stuff" on has gone..... so here's the creation.  Its not exactly what I wanted but it'll do.  I really wanted to do the pockets in a different colour fabric but didn't really have anything that "matched" and the hooks at the bottom - well I wanted them to be a bit nicer but with the time I had it was all I could find.

I then decided to make a little pouch from a tutorial I found on www.skiptomylou.com.  Here's the finish product.  I think its ok for my first attempt!  Might make a few more of these as they are a great size.  Perfect for make-up, "lady" products, small notebook and pen, medicines....etc that end up in the handbag.

Well Hello :-)

It seemed timely, after receiving my first order of oilcloth this afternoon, that I create a blog to record my ideas and creations.   I look forward to sharing them with you.  So, without further ado, my oilcloth......  I hope to soon be able to post the creation/s that have come from this bundle.
